The course ultimately taken on the type of launch architecture to succeed the Shuttle will dramatically effect America's future in space, and if the

Destination Moon
Film and Lecture by Kevin Atkins
Of all the science fiction films of the 1950s that are today acknowledged as "classics", Destination Moon is the least known and most under-appreciated, probably because it offers so little to the casual viewer.
Ironically enough, it is the very qualities that make this film so important that doom it as entertainment: its technical accuracy; its deliberately low-key, almost documentary approach; and above all its deadly earnestness – there are no cheap thrills here. Read more.

Space-Based Solar Power as an Energy Source for Earth
A recent study (October 2007) confirmed earlier work done (from 1968 onward) concerning the feasibility of space-based solar
power (SBSP). Solar power would be collected by very large satellites assembled in orbit. This power would then be beamed to Earth by
microwaves, for conversion into base-load electric power. This will be a huge engineering project, but no new scientific breakthroughs are
needed. Each satellite will put at least 1000 megawatts of electricity into Earth’s electric power grid. Using satellites avoids the need to
store massive amounts of energy to deal with day/night and seasonal cycles, and cloudy days. Thus, satellites will make the use of solar
power for large base-load applications feasible. While other energy sources will be needed as stopgaps until SBSP is built; once SBSP is
in place on a large scale, the Earth’s energy problems are solved forever. This is NOT, repeat, NOT science fiction.
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is an all-new three-part mini-series featuring many Trek
alumni, with a cast that spans all 5 Star Trek TV series, as well as the Star Trek feature films.
Directed by Tim Russ (Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager), it is being released on the Internet, with each
webisode approximately 30 minutes in length. However, you can be some of the first fans to see parts 1 and 2 on the
big screen! Then be prepared for the high-octane conclusion of part 3, premiering soon on the Internet!
In Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, Uhura and Chekov’s reunion with Captain John Harriman is cut
short when they intercept an automated distress signal. Their investigation takes them to a classified location where
an encounter with a shadowy figure from their past alters their lives, turning friends into deadly enemies and sending
them on a journey from which there may be no escape.
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men stars Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols (Chekov and Uhura of the
original series) and Alan Ruck (Captain John Harriman of the 7th Trek feature film, Star Trek
Generations) along with Grace Lee Whitney and Lawrence Montaigne (of the original series).
Joining them are Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager) and Ethan Phillips (Star Trek: Voyager
as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation); Cirroc Lofton, Chase Masterson and JG Hertzler
(Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Gary Graham and Crystal Allen (Star Trek: Enterprise),
Herb Jefferson (Battlestar Galactica, the original series), Daamen Krall (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) and
William Wellman, Jr. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). In addition to directing ST:OGaM, Tim Russ
also reprises his role as Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager.

Terok Nor, revealing how the saga began! Meanwhile, Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise continue with all-new adventures
set after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, while Myriad Universes explores a variety of “alternative history” tales. Finally,

universe coming together in an epic storyline—one that promises to shape the future of Star Trek fiction for years to come! Join authors
Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore to get a preview of Pocket Books’ plans for the entire year along with sneak peeks into 2009. Find out what’s
happening with books based on Warcraft, Starcraft, and other hot gaming properties, television shows like CSI

Pocket's upcoming arc of Star Trek novels, Kobayashi Maru, Greater Than the Sum, and the
Destiny trilogy will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Star Trek lives! Read the proof!
Star Trek vs Star Wars
This panel will discuss the greatest on-going sci-fi debate. That is, which one is better, Star Wars or Star Trek? The presentation will cover and compare
the two sci-fi adventures in various ways and perspectives, such as who had the better special effects, space gadgets, space ships, storyline, characters,
music?. Which made the most money? Which affected us more socially and culturally? Which was more realistic? In the end, the audience's final vote about
which is the best will speak for itself.
The Starfest Panel
Have you ever wondered how you can run a panel at Starfest? Have you wondered how to become a
volunteer? Do you have a great video that you'd like to show at the Fan Film Festival? Then come to
this panel! Susan, Treecy, and Kelley (and anyone else we can talk into coming) will answer what questions we

Stargate Bootcamp
New recruits to Stargate Command will undergo training in various fields (leadership, research and development, science,
medical, weapons/combat, Atlantis) before they are sent out in teams on a mission. The mission is part scavenger hunt in looking for
clues at Starfest, and part test of knowledge gleaned from the training. An award ceremony will be held at the SG-14 fan table
to honor the winning team.
Stories From a Hat
We supply the components, you write the story! Bring your pen and paper and join writers Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore for this fun, off-the-cuff
writing challenge. From their nefarious bag of tricks, you’ll draw various “ingredients” for your story—character, theme, setting, opening line, an item
or object—after which you’ll have an hour to craft a short story (500-1,000 words) using those bits and pieces. The stories will be judged and prizes
from Starfest’s monstrous vault of cool stuff will be awarded to the winners. Work alone or collaborate with friends—the more, the merrier! During this
2-hour block, Dayton and Kevin will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have about writing—theirs, yours, that freaky stuff you find on
the internet, whatever!
