Flashback movie series at the Continental

Continental Flashback Features Movie Series$5 Movie Series Returns
Wednesday Nights 9pm
June 4th - August 13th

There are some great movies lined up for you in June at the Continental Theater. All the films will be shown in the brand-new stadium theaters located at I-25 & Hampden. The reason that this series is not being shown on the three story screen is because it is scheduled to be remodeled this year. They will be converting it to stadium seating to match all the other screens at the Continental.

The June movies are:

June 4th - Goodfellas: The lowly, blue-collar side of New York's Italian mafia is explored in this crime biopic of wiseguy Henry Hill. As he makes his way from strapping young petty criminal, to big-time thief, to middle-aged cocaine addict and dealer, the film explores in detail the rules and traditions of organized crime. Watching the rise and fall of Hill and his two counterparts, the slick jack-of-all-trades criminal Jimmy Conway and the brutish, intimidating Joe Pesci, this true story realistically explores the core, blue-collar part of the mob. Rated R.

The movie would have probably swept the Academy Awards, were it not for the popular appeal of Dances with Wolves that year. Joe Pesci won an academy award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and the film was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Writing.

June 11th - Spaceballs: The planet Spaceball, home planet of the evil Spaceballs is running out of air and the planet's ruler President Skroob has devised a evil scheme, where he plans to steal the air from the atmosphere of the peaceful planet Druidia. But Druidia is surrounded by a defense shield to prevent the Spaceballs from stealing the air. When Druidia's ruler King Roland's beautiful daughter Princess Vespa and her loyal droid Dot Matrix flees from Druidia during her wedding to Prince Valium, The evil commander of the Spaceball fleet, Dark Helmet captures Princess Vespa so King Roland will be forced to give them the access code to the defense shield. But heroic space pilot Lone Starr and his sidekick, Barf (A Mog, half man-half Dog) comes to Princess Vespa's rescue. With help from wise and powerful master of the magic ring "The Schwartz" Yogurt, Lone Starr, Barf, Dot and Princess Vespa set out to save Druida and foil Dark Helmet and President Scroob's scheme and prevent them from stealing the air from Druidia. Rated PG.

No danger of Academy Awards for this film. This movie is a hoot of a parody of Star Wars and science fiction movies by the parody-master Mel Brooks.

June 18th - The Goonies A young teenager named Mikey Walsh finds an old treasure map in his father's attic. Hoping to save their homes from demolition, Mikey and his friends Data Wang, Chunk Cohen, and Mouth Devereaux run off to find the secret stash of One-Eyed Willie. Rated PG.

Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, and Corey Feldman. Written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and directed by Richard Donner. Kind of a Indiana Jones crossed with The Little Rascals.

June 25th - The Big Lebowski Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski is the ultimate LA slacker, until one day his house is broken into and his rug is peed on by two angry gangsters who have mistaken him for Jeffrey Lebowski, the LA millionaire, whose wife owes some bad people some big money. The Dude becomes entangled in the plot when he goes to visit the real Lebowski in order to get some retribution for his soiled rug, and is recruited to be the liason between Lebowski and the captors of his now "kidnapped" wife. Rated R.

A crime/comedy/mystery from the Coen Brothers starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Keep sending them in!

Brian Reed just sent us a bunch of photos he took at Starfest. In his note he related the following:

"I am writing to inquire with regard to images taken during the 2008 StarFest event at the Marriott-DTC Hotel. I am wondering if you accept images from photographers other than those that were walking around with "Staff" ID badges?"

Of course, Brian!

"I have some images that I took during the event that you are welcome to if you would like. I am just an amateur photographer who loves the art of photography and I also love sharing my work with others. I have been asked if I do it for recognition or in attempts to pick up future clients and my response is, DEFINITELY NOT!!! I have a passion for photography and I just love to share my work whenever possible."

"This was my first year attending the StarFest and I have to admit that I am SERIOUSLY HOOKED. I cannot wait to come back next year and the year after that, etc. I attempted to attend last year's event but invariably my work schedule prevented my attendance. I was able to attend this year and it was AWESOME!!!!!! The guest stars that you had present were just way too cool and the participants, the staff, the attendees were just so wonderful. I cannot wait to come back to next year's event. I just wish that it could occur more than just once a year. I know that the planning and preparation must be intense for something like this but I have to tell you that I am spreading the word now amongst anyone who will listen (and even those that do not want to listen) that they MUST attend."

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement Brian. We are really looking forward to next year too. Click here to see Brian's photos.
