It's Haunting Time! The 2006 Haunted House Season Begins
I woke up this morning at 7am (to bed at 2am). That's actually sleeping-in a bit this week. Unfortunately, I awoke with a headache and stuffy nose. Welcome to opening day. After feeding the animals, it's time to make some final changes to the haunted house ticket booth signs that will get printed today. I got them emailed off to Jesse - she's got the big format printer.
I was able to slap together a poster that brags about our $10 additional haunt pricing. We've gone to an "Add A Haunt" pricing structure this year. When you buy a haunted house ticket, we give you the option to buy additional tickets to our other four haunts for just $10 each. The best part is that the tickets are good anytime all month - you don't have to use them on the same night. It's a real deal and we hope lots of people will take advantage of it.
So running down the "to do" list, there really isn't all that much left. The items still on the list won't stop us from getting open tonight. I've still got to build the new facade for Alien Terror, but the old mansion facade is in place for the time being... it doesn't really fit, but it's better than a blank wall I figure. Once I get it done, I'll move the mansion entrance over to the 25th Hour exit. I've got to get over to Slaughterhouse to make sure the Saw video is working right and then I'll be booking it over to Buckingham to install a new sound chip for 25th Hour and an MP3 player for our Alien Queen over at Alien Terror. The people doing some of the final decoration over there mentioned that the trigger sensor for old Queeny might need to be moved - she waits a little too long before she starts her scare. That reminds me, Roxanne's room needs a little light adjusting before she's ready too.
Sorry, that's all I have time for today. I've got to get out the notice for the Employee of the Month screening on Wednesday. We'll be giving those tickets to winners over at The 13th Door on Monday - I hope. I wonder if Jessica Simpson is as dim as her reputation has her - she's probably clearer headed than I am right now - I've got to find some asprin and get something to eat.
Employee of the Month Screening Continental Theater, October 4th @ 7pm
For customers of Super Club, the largest high-volume, bulk discount retailer in the country, membership has its privileges. For workers at the cavernous store, the most coveted honor is the "Employee of the Month" award, and having one's photo immortalized on the wall of fame in the staff lounge.
Enter Zack Bradley (Dane Cook) and Vince Downey (Dax Shepard), two ultra competitive Super Club workers whose ten years of employment have resulted in drastically different career paths. While Vince with the aid of his trusty sidekick Jorge (Efren Ramirez) - has advanced to become head cashier and winner of 17 consecutive "E of M" awards, Zack is the ultimate slacker whose scruffy appearance and laid back attitude has made him popular with his colleagues, but kept him stuck in the lowly ranks of the store's box boys. The duo's longtime rivalry comes to a bitter head when Amy (Jessica Simpson) a beautiful new cashier with a reputation of only dating "Employee of the Month" winners transfers to the store, immediately becoming the object of both Zack and Vince's affection and often comical gamesmanship.
While Vince instantly impresses Amy with his crowd pleasing, flamboyant style behind his checkstand register, Zack's feeble attempts to charm his beautiful new co-worker quickly backfire against him. With the race to win Amy's affections slipping away, Zack determines his only chance rests in winning the store's next "Employee of the Month" award. A battle to the end, Employee of the Month shows that the only failure in life is when one fails to try.
The U.S. vs. John Lennon Screening
Wednesday, September 27th @ 7:30pm
The Mayan, 1st & Broadway, Denver
In the 60's and 70's, long before Barbara and Bono, Michael Moore and Madonna, John Lennon was protesting the U.S. Government and its unpopular war.
The U.S. vs John Lennon is a documentary that presents through riveting imagery and sound, a glimpse into Lennon's simple message; A message that cut through rhetoric and doubletalk with a simple phrase - "Give Peace a Chance." More than that, the film presents the behind the scenes manipulation of his popularity by more radical anti-war protesters like Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. Because of those associations, even the FBI became interested in his message and his subversive statements.
There are three great films ahead in the Continental Flashback series this month. Each is priced at just $5.00. There is no better way to see these classics than setting in a reclining seat with a bucket of popcorn, a drink, and watching them the way they were meant to be seen - on a theater screen like the Continental's 3-story monster.
Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban - Approaching his third year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter has had enough of his muggle relatives. He runs away from them (finally) and enters his third term facing trouble from more than one side: for using magic outside the school and from the news that a notorious criminal, serial killer Sirius Black, has escaped the wizard's prison at Azkaban and apparently is headed for Harry. The school calls in supernatural help against Black in the form of Dementors, but unusual things continue to put Harry in peril. He is thrown into a confusing panoply of shifting alliegences and shifting shapes where nobody is who or what they seem. Who is the real criminal? What is the real crime? Who is telling or knows the truth?
Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind - Cableman Roy Neary is one of several people who experience a close encounter of the first kind, witnessing UFOs flying through the night sky. He is subsequently haunted by a mountainlike image in his head and becomes obsessed with discovering what it represents, putting severe strain on his marriage. Meanwhile, government agents around the world have a close encounter of the second kind, discovering physical evidence of otherworldly visitors in the form of military vehicles that went missing decades ago suddenly appearing in the middle of nowhere. Roy and the agents both follow the clues they have been given to reach a site where they will have a close encounter of the third kind: contact.
The Wizard of Oz - When a nasty neighbor tries to have her dog put to sleep, Dorothy takes her dog Toto, to run away. A cyclone appears and carries her to the magical land of Oz. Wishing to return, she begins to travel to the Emerald City where a great wizard lives. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who desperately needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz will help them, before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.
Flyboys, the first World War I aviation film in over 30 years, is inspired by the epic, courageous tale of the American young men who would become known as the legendary Lafayette Escadrille. They were ordinary boys who volunteered for the first World War looking for adventure, and in the process, they became heroes. Never before has a movie so accurately portrayed the thrill and danger of the aerial dogfights that played such an integral role in the Allied resistance.
